Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)

1. Do I need a visa to Belarus if I hold a Russian visa?

Yes. Although one has a Russian visa, Belarus visa is required to travel to the Republic of Belarus.

2. Do I need a visa if I’m transiting through Belarus by railway and not going to exit the train?

Yes. Belarus transit visa is required if one is travelling through Belarus by train (or any other means of land transport).  A transit visa is valid within two days since the day of entry to the territory of Belarus. A transit visa holder must exit Belarus only to a third country (it is not allowed to return to the country from which a person arrived in Belarus).

3. Do I need a visa if I’m transiting through Belarus by air transport?

While transiting through the Minsk National Airport using international air routes (all routes except to/from airports of Russian Federation) one doesn’t need a visa if one holds the air tickets to a third country and one’s stay in Belarus does not exceed 24 hours. It will not be allowed to leave a special transit zone of the Airport in this case.

Transit through the Minsk National Airport to/from Russia is considered to be a domestic transit. In this case a transit visa to Belarus is required.

For any stopover at the airport in Russia a Russian transit visa must be obtained before a trip to Belarus.

The border control of the Republic of Belarus may refuse any person to enter the Republic of Belarus even with the valid visa and passport.
